More time in than out

Today Finn woke up, and his little baby brain thought about what he should do today.
"Should I play with my cars?" the little brain thought. "Should I build a fort?"
"No," said little brain, "today I think I'll be naughty."

"First I'll pick the paint off the wall by my crib. Then I'll pour conditioner on my sister's bed. I'll mop the floor with my juice, rub jam on the cat, and smash some knickknacks.

Then I'll nap."

Little Brain spent his resting time devising new and devious ways to be naughty. He thought, and he thought, and he thought. A plan grew in the deepest recesses of Little Brain. A plan so purely evil it could only be executed by a little boy.

"I think I'll colour. On the wall. With the most expensive lipstick I can find. Then I'll flush a rubber duck, and then I think I'll go out for a walk. Should I tell mommy? Naaaaaah. She'll figure it out. Shoulda brought shoes though. Oh well. Microwaving my spoon was genius, did you see all those sparks??!?

I got banished to my crib.

Freedom! Pulling the cat around by his tail has made me hungry. What's good around here? Oh yeah, BUTTER! I'll take a scoop of that, and some cat food, there, that's better. On to mom's room! I don't like the way she organizes her armoir, I'll help her out. There! They look much better on the floor! Now to stomp on them to make sure they stay down.

Back to my crib.

Freedom! A little cereal on the floor... Oh, ok, a lot. Eh, all of it. Why not! Darn, she took the scissors away. Where did I stick that tuna sandwich? Oh well, I'm sure it'll turn up. OOOOOHHHHH! These raisins fit perfectly through the vents around here! Neat-o! Add some milk... Beautiful.

And I'm back in my crib.

Freedom! Man, gotta poop. Mom's busy, I'll change me! Annnnnd, diaper goes in the wash. What's in there? Whites? Alright. Oh, missed. Ewwww! Slimy! I'll wipe that on the carpet here. Much better. A little paper shredding... It's colourful, that means it's not important!

Crib.

Highchair.

Playpen.

Crib.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..."

From felted to fabulous!

For my birthday, I got this beautiful emerald green 100% 2 Ply Cashmere sweater. It was the softest thing I've ever felt. It was the most beautiful, deep, jewel toned colour. It was love.
It was not machine washable.

So now I have a very beautiful 100% 2 Ply Cashmere doll sweater.

Did you know that wool, especially pure wool, makes a naturally waterproof and anti-bacterial diaper cover?
Did you know that Finn wears cloth diapers?

Did you know that I know how to sew?
Thus this:

Became this (they're called "longies" - full pant diaper cover)

And, additionally, this (matching vest):

As you can see, I had a less-than-enthusiastic model.

It's about thirty degrees out, and Finn refuses to take it off. He keeps rubbing his legs and saying "Oooooh, NIIIIIIIIIICE!" I'm glad he enjoys the most luxe diaper cover this side of Angora.

Now to gather up the scraps and make something matching for Gigi, his nightime one-armed giraffe friend.

Have to train them young - and save water too!

This is what The Daddy has been up to:

Reference pic:

Tattoo! On his ribs! (Minus the post-dinner lasagne disaster, hehehe):

Note: If you look kind of below and to the left of the Finnigan tattoo, you can see the faint stencil of the future Rachel tattoo - The Daddy just couldn't sit through all three portraits at once. More to come!

Finnigan is TWO!!!

Yesterday was Finn's second birthday. When you ask him how old he is, he will say "This" and give you his hand, because he wants to hold up two fingers but his fine motor skills aren't quite up to his will yet. But if you pin down the rest of his fingers so that he's only holding two up, then he can show you that he is, in fact, two years old.

And he learned yesterday how to peel his own oranges.

Happy birthday Finnigan!

Like those kids that are raised by wolves

Have you ever heard stories of kids who are like, abandoned in the woods and then a momma wolf adopts them and they're raised within the pack, and they grow up kind of ferel and wolf-like? It's like that, except instead of wolves, Finn is being raised by a pack of women. We were going out to the car yesterday, and he saw a bug. Do you know what he did? He danced around on his tippytoes, with his arms clutched dramatically to his chest, saying "Ew! Eewww! Ewww, ew eww eww ew!!!"
It was hysterical. If he wasn't so 'boyish' with his build and his haircut, face shape, and armload of toy cars, it would have been downright flamboyant. Can something be "a little bit flamboyant"? Because that was. Unless "a little bit flamboyant" is a catch 22, like Jumbo Shrimp, or New & Improved, or Honest Politics.
He also will not dig in the dirt of the garden with me, and don't even THINK about making him touch a worm (also called a bug, he says).

Today he is moist

Last night I switched around some furniture in the baby's nursery, because he was getting so big that he'd bonk his head on the shelves above his dresser/change table.

I forgot about the bum cream in his top drawer.

I put the dresser/change table next to the crib.

I went in to get him this morning, and he was so white he looked like a ghost of himself. It was such a stark white that he actually kind of looked pale blue.

Bum cream does not come off, you have to wait for it to soak into skin. Unless of course your baby is climbing all over you, or the couch, or any other fabric surface in the house, and then it will lovingly transfer to all of those whilst remaining also on baby's skin.

Can you still classify your couch as 'beige' if it has brown chocolate smears, blue pen ink drawings, unidentified purple blotches, grey watermarks, and is covered in a fine white film of bum cream?

You just KNOW there is a post coming wherein I slipcover it...

I wonder if he'll poop rainbows and butterflies

I can't get Finn to stop eating the crayons. Today he had a blue one with breakfast, and a white one for a snack before lunch. (The white one made him look like he had rabies.)

Then we went outside and he ate a caterpillar. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a poisonous one, so at worst he's up a bit of protein.

I feed this kid real food, I promise. I just can't get him to stop eating the non-food stuff between meals.

Ugh.

The post wherein Finn gets photobombed

What is Photobombing, you ask? It's where you are trying to take a picture of your ridiculously cute toddler, and some jerk ruins it simply by being in the background.

Example:

See? I'm trying to look at the most handsome little boy on the planet, and all. I. can focus on. is that lady's asscrack!

Sigh. Time to flex my cropping skills...

TV teaches gud inglish

Finn is playing Wheel of Fortune. It's actually really funny!

Finn: "A"
"E"
"D"
"EEEEEE"
"O"
"D"
"C"
"MEEEEE"

I'm not really sure what he's spelling, but he seems to think the audience is clapping for him and that's good enough.

Oh goodie, Finn's at *that* age

Things I have pulled out of my VCR this week:
  1. DVD's
  2. The VCR remote
  3. Sippy cup lid
  4. Toast
  5. Cat treats
  6. More DVD's

Finn Says

Finn has learned how to say "I love you" and "Thank you". It's so freaking cute I could just die. The kid kills me.

Monday, 16 March 2009

Well, that was easier than I thought.

So I called the gas company today. Finn screamed in the background the ENTIRE time. Of course, by "in the background" I mean "in the ear not occupied by the phone". I don't really recall what was said, but they'll be sending a guy out to hook me back up within the next three hours.

I knew I had that boy for a reason.

Caught strawberry-handed

He doesn't even have the decency to look guilty. He's rockin' the ambidexterous thing though.
I think we've solved the mystery of how the strawberry jam ended up under the table, upside down, with no lid.

Mind your own business, old fart

Dear the snotty old bluehair at the grocery store today:

When my son is saying "Ow", it's NOT because I'm hurting him. He's meowing. Like a cat. That's why he was using that funny voice. That's why I was laughing and tickling him under the chin. That's why I was calling him "Kitty". MYOB lady, Depends are in aisle 4. Isn't it almost time for your meds back at the retirement castle? Don't make me drop-kick you back to your glory days in the roaring '20's.

Sincerely,
The Mommy
