VACCINATE

VACCINATE

YOUR DAMN

KIDS

PLEASE.

It's called "Herd Immunity", google it. It's what eradicated polio. Don't remember polio? Little kids in iron lungs? HERD IMMUNITY. Let me put it in stupid people layman's terms: if you innoculate immunize protect all possible hosts people from a certain disease sickness, then the sickness will simply cease to be. It will be "evolved out". It's like playing an active role in natural selection. For the GOOD of ALL MANKIND. So the next time your namby-pamby whiny, ignorant self opts out of giving little Jimmy a widdle bitty needle because it might give him a big bad owwie which results in a big, fat, crocodile tear - I would personally like to thank you for your stellar role in keeping atrocities like measles, mumps, and rubella alive and well in our society.

And don't give me that crap about the preservatives being linked to Autism. Ketchup has been linked to cancer, but I'll bet you still have that in your fridge. There's no proof that child wouldn't be autistic anyway. At least he'll be HEALTHY and autistic. I'll take the autistic kid over the kid with rubella (she'll be the one with all the unexplained miscarriages), mumps (the infertile kid with testicular swelling and inflamed salivary glands), or measles (ahh, popularity in the form of three C's - Cough, Coryza, and Conjunctivitis). Providing, of course, that they're not dead. But hey, beats the hell out of a NEEDLE, no??

If we're not ALL immunized, we might as well none of us do it. Break them up if you must, just do it.

For the sake of society,

VACCINATE

YOUR DAMN

KIDS

PLEASE

So does that mean you are going to cancel our play dates until Mia gets all of her shots :)

I am assuming you have a breakout of something up there. We have a measles one here.

Why does you blog have so many letters for the word verification. I swear it takes me longer to type that in then it does for the comment.

Kira said...

Sorry, I didn't know about the word verification! I'll try to turn that off.

As for the playdates, yes, our friendship is officially quaranteened. ;) I'll have to wrap you all up in saran wrap before we play together.

Oh, that sounded dirty! Lol!

Whoo hoo for shots!

Don't say that outloud on the bargain board. Those bee-otches will eat you alive. I once said that autism wasn't the end-all-be-all of childhood diseases. That earned me some Ignore clicks ;)

Teri - don't I know it! These are the same twits who stuff their babies full of McCrap and then haul their obese asses up on their soapboxes to protest vaccinations, circumcisions, and wearing Walmart clothes.

Do you think there's a vaccination against stupidity?

Kari-Anne said...

I so agree .....

I don't mind the verification but for some reason yours was twice at long as everyone else's. It could have just been that it didn't like me.

Should I tell you I never have received my last MMR booster or will that ban me from being your friend forever.

Um saran wrap if we taped it the DH's would be happy.

Kira said...

Lol, Dawn. Hey, maybe the saran wrap would be just as good as immunization? You know, keep us sealed up for freshness? ;) Yes, the taping is the key. Do you think we could charge?

Dawn said...

Of course we will have to charge if we put it online. Heck I bet Id make more money than I do on the paper route.

Kira, I am not trying to be snarky with you, BUT there are MANY other reasons people are choosing to not vaccinate or to hold off on vaccinations.

I can NOT vaccinate Ethan right now with all of his shots because I have autoimmune issues. It is genetic and giving him some of his vaccinations could literally kill him or send him into a spiral of deteriorated health.

My thoughts on vaccinations have absolutely nothing to do with Autism, so for someone to just blatently bash people for lack of vaccines really upsets me. I hate that I get lumped into a group of people.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know there are many people that have different reasonings for it:)

That is sooooooo very right! I am so sick of the " follow the leader" BS! give your kids the damn shots already!

Hayley Kira never said anything against delaying shots "Break them up if you must, just do it." Her point is directed towards people that don't vaccinate at all. Obviously your situation calls for delayed shots as per this "I can NOT vaccinate Ethan right now with all of his shots" So I fail to see how calling her out on her opinions is even worth your time. since it was not directed towards someone in your situation.

Hayley - I understand that the shots may adversely effect some children, but honestly any of the diseases we immunize against could also "literally kill him or send him into a spiral of deteriorated health." OR he could pass it on to children who may not yet be old enough for immunizations - killing THEM. Or simply carry it around, giving it time to mutate and become stronger and resistant to the vaccinations we already have. Like I said in the post, every unimunized child is an opportunity to keep the viruses alive (so to speak). It's like leaving holes in a retaining wall - the wall is useless unless it has a solid front, KWIM? There are so many ways to go about immunizations, including delaying them, breaking them up, using organic vaccinations that don't have the preservatives... Most "reasons" for not vaccinating are NOT very well researched (not saying yours isn't, just in my experience). The few-and-far-between "real" cases of immunization risk outweighing the benefits make me seriously question whether that child can function normally in society. I don't really know Ethan's story, so I would never presume to lump you into any catergory, but the facts of immunizing are that the VAST majority are perfectly safe for the VAST majority of children, to the point where actually "knowing" someone who CAN'T vax is suspicious simply because the odds are so stacked against it. In my opinion (which, after all, is what this blog is all about!) is that it is irresponsible and selfish to not vaccinate unless doing so is a damn-near-guaranteed death sentence. In which case, maybe that child would be better off living in a bubble, both for his own safety and that of every single person he would have any kind of contact with. I respect your opinion (I even published it, lol!) but this is something I feel very passionately about and have researched extensively even though my own child has none of the "red flags" or risk factors that would make me wary of immunizing. It makes me sad that so many people would spit in the face of this kind of technology for some of the reasons I've encountered - including someone who ACTUALLY said "but I don't like needles, so I wouldn't make him have one...". (Seriously, WTF???) and people who just plumb don't know what they're talking about. It's a regression. We have the means to defeat these diseases, and yet some people choose to not care, or have so-called "reasons", of which about 99.999 are absolute bullshit. However, I realize this is just my opinion, and I can't deny others theirs. We all have to make our own decisions for our own children! I just can't wrap my mind around not immunizing for no good medical reason (which you may very well have, we've never really discussed it - nor is it MY call). It strikes me as selfish, short-sighted, and unfair to the rest of us.

Thanks for posting though, good to know you're still around! How's the BBC hiatus going?

Dawn, I never "called" Kira out. I made a comment. I made a comment based on my experience. I thought that it was okay to do that. I wanted to point out that there are many, many sides to this debate that perhaps people are not aware of. As Kira said, I am very well researched on this topic and I was putting my information out there.

Kira, I have my reasons for my decision and that is that. You have your reasons for your viewpoint. I wasn't trying to be rude, just trying to point out another viewpoint. I have to consider my health and Ethan's health in these kinds of situations.

Oh, and thanks for asking... my hiatus is going really well. I don't think I will be returning, but it is nice to have the free time:)

Hayley - At least you never said "well it doesn't affect you, so what do you care?"! Lol. Then I might have to drag out my big ol' soapbox. ;)
